I'm forwarding this to the authoring list as well, where conversations about this topic are also underway.

Subject: 3akai and RESTful functionality
On today's call we talked a bit about "Content Authoring" issues that
are central to the design of 3.0, and that those efforts may need to
be drawn closer together. I'd mentioned that some early priorities
have been ventured in conversation between Cambridge and Georgia Tech.
I'll assume these are the right lists for the sake of argument,
though they may yet need more discussion and clarification.
- Blog (I might guess this would mean particular blog entries with
associated comments, but I'm not certain)
- Forums (Not sure if this would be an entire forum, or a particular
discussion topic/thread, or a particular posting, or all of the above)
- Assignment (i.e. the Assignment description, which would include
functionality for making a submission)
- Discussion Thread
If we did all of these, then, that would be at least 4 more embeddable
"entities" of functionality (possibly more, if we do multiple entities
for each tool) for the 3.0 RC1, and that may frame an initial scope of
work in this area. And there will of course be design issues as well
as technical issues for implementation. It's our impression that the
content authoring discussion has focused on the technical side of
things (the "entification") thus far.
Stuart and Ashish (on the design side) at Georgia Tech are going to
make a start with BlogWow, simply because it's the tool we know best,
even if it's not on our priority list, with the hope that it will
teach us what we need to know to accomplish the others more quickly.
